Next stop is Skógafoss waterfall -- and it's a big one. If you don't have time to see all the waterfalls when you visit, this one should be on your 'short list'. A long line of visitors climbs the 430 stairs to the viewing platform, and I join them. The mist from the waterfall makes this a great place to see a rainbow (or two).

A quick look at the falls from the top. Birds fly below and nest in the cliffs, and sheep can be seen dotting the landscape beyond -- somehow sticking to (and grazing on) some very steep slopes without any trouble.

A nice hiking path continues up above the waterfall, following the river that feeds it. I follow the trail for a while -- but I believe it's part of the Fimmvörðuháls hiking trail -- which continues to the next town. I explore a while longer and then back down the stairs to view the waterfall from below.
