After about an hour on the trail, is the 'magical' spot in the river where the hot and cold waters mix perfectly to create a "hot river" just the right temperature for soaking (assuming you brought your bathing suit on the hike). A wooden boardwalk provides easier access to the river, and many people are soaking in the hot waters here.

Near the river, sheep happily graze on grass directly next to hot pools of boiling, churning water -- seemingly without any concern (maybe they like the steam).

For dinner tonight, I visit the nearby town of Þorlákshöfn to try a restaurant that was well reviewed. By this time in the trip, I expected to master the language a bit more -- but underestimated the difficulty in pronouncing these town names (in this case, it's something like "thor-lock-sha" -- but the way I was pronouncing it seemed to make natives cringe).
