Iceland is a tiny country (it's smaller in size than New York State, and has fewer people than Staten Island) -- but there's a lot to see here, and I only scratched the surface. Driving along coastal roads, you'll see neatly painted farmhouses (often with red roofs), and volcanic mountainsides softened by moss and time. Sheep graze everywhere, and I even saw a few Icelandic horses and cows (although sheep is what you'll see the most).

Behind many of the farmhouses, there are small buildings set into the hillsides -- but I never figured out what these are.
